Katy – 18 year old
I was scared when I came to First way. I was 17, about to graduate from high school. I had a scholarship to college. I planned to be a pre-med major. I didn’t think this would ever happen to me. What would my mom and dad say? Would I even be able to go to college? Thankfully, the staff at First Way was there to listen to my cry, see what options were available to me and not pass judgment on me or my situation.

As the oldest of 7 children, I had a lot of people looking up to me. What were they going to say? I was about to graduate from college. I was looking forward to my last track season. Now I was pregnant and didn’t know where to go or how to tell my parents. First Way helped me by being a friendly presence and giving me information on community resources. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but I was grateful they offered me a chance to see my baby for the first time on ultrasound. Thank you First Way!

As a mother, I never expected to face this choice. I was 4 months pregnant when the doctor found melanoma. My co-workers and some friends told me I should terminate my pregnancy. I needed someone to talk to – that’s when I found First Way. Even though they couldn’t “fix” any problems for me, they were caring and compassionate .They told me I could call any time.

I had 4 children when I found out I was pregnant again. My doctor advised me to abort because my blood pressure was dangerously high. I had other health problems as well. I found out about First Way. They didn’t tell me what to do, but listened with care and attention.

My boyfriend and I were on the verge of bankruptcy. His job was seasonal. I had just found work, but our landlord told me we would have to move within two weeks because of back payments. I was disappointed and disheartened by the response of the father of our baby who told me he was leaving the abortion decision up to me alone. I had no family to depend on and felt nauseous much of the time. 1st Way was there to help me sort out the problems.

I received a free pregnancy test from 1st Way and felt I was going to have the baby, although my older kids were definitely against a new one in the house. When I got home, even my new husband suggested I abort. I called 1st Way to get an ultrasound to make sure how far along I was. They rearranged the ultrasound schedule to make room for an ultrasound the next day.

I have really enjoyed my visits to 1st Way. The services they provide that have been most beneficial to me are the free pregnancy tests and the children’s clothes. What makes the visits even more enjoyable are the women who volunteer their time at 1st Way. They’ve been warm, friendly, easy to talk to, and that really is the most important thing to me. Heidi 1st Way gave me a free pregnancy test and helped me get a referral to a doctor to get medical coverage I needed for my pregnancy. It was really a friendly and comfortable atmosphere and I learned a lot about the options that I had. My son was born early and while he was in the hospital I received blankets and clothes for him which really helped me out a lot at the time. My son is so beautiful and I am so glad that I chose life for him. |
